Rebuilding from the Rubble

Rebuilding from the Rubble: Life After Financial Loss and Divorce

There are seasons in life where everything seems to fall apart at once — where love ends, money runs out, and you’re left staring at the pieces, unsure which to pick up first.

I’ve been there.  Maybe you’re there now?

Here’s what I’ve learned — not from a place of theory, but from sitting in the middle of the storm:

  1. Start with breath, not a blueprint.
Before fixing, solving, or hustling — just breathe. Acknowledge the pain, the fear, and the loss. You don’t have to bounce back overnight. This is sacred ground. You’re not broken — you’re becoming.
  2. Financial rebuilding begins with honesty, not shame.
Whether it’s debt, job loss, or financial chaos, shame is the heaviest burden. Replace shame with clarity: what do I have, what do I need, and what small step can I take this week?
  3. Divorce is the end of a chapter, not your story.
It hurts. It may feel like failure. But what if it’s also the beginning of rediscovering you? Your voice. Your worth. Your dreams. You’re allowed to start over without apology.
  4. Ask for help — not because you’re weak, but because you’re wise.
Therapists, financial advisors, friends, coaches — lean into community. We’re not meant to rebuild alone.
  5. Create a vision, even if it feels impossible.
What do you want your life to feel like 6 months from now? A year? Focus less on “how” and more on “why.” Your future self needs a direction, not a detailed map.

“If you’re in the middle of a financial storm or recovering from a breakup that shook your world, I want you to know this: you’re not alone, and you’re not stuck. This might be the start of your most powerful chapter yet.”

If you’re still in the thick of rebuilding, what kind of support or tools would help you most right now?
